The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening. The game took place in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2. Luis Severino started for the Yankees and looked good, he
just didn’t pitch long. The bullpen was great and the offense hit two two-run homeruns.
Severino pitched three innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Ron
Marinaccio made his major league debut pitching an inning, walking one and striking out two. Miguel
Castro pitched an inning with a walk, Lucas Luetge picked up his first win of the season pitching an
inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Clay
Holmes pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a
strikeout and earned his first save of the season.
Nick Pivetta started for the Red Sox and took his first loss of the season. He pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up four hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Austin Davis pitched to one batter and got
him out, Hirokazu Sawamura pitched a perfect inning and Phillips Valdez pitched a perfect inning with
a strikeout.
Josh Donaldson had a hit, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and two RBI. Giancarlo
Stanton had a hit and two RBI, DJ LeMahieu drew a walk and Joey Gallo had a hit and drew a walk.
Rizzo and Stanton each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and
left two men on base. Isiah Kiner-Falefa committed an error.
Rafael Devers had a hit, Xander Bogaerts drew a walk and J.D. Martinez had a hit. Alex Verdugo had two
hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Trevor Story had a hit and drew a walk, Bobby Dalbec drew a walk and
Story and Devers each hit a double. Verdugo hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-10 with runners in
scoring position and left eight men on base. Jackie Bradley Jr. had an outfield assist.
In the second Verdugo hit a two-run homerun giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth
Rizzo hit a two-run homer to tie the game at two and in the bottom of the sixth Stanton hit a two-run
homer to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead which would be the final score. The two teams will play the third
and final game of the series on Sunday night. The Yankees will be looking for the sweep.
