The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. The game took place at
Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1. Taijuan Walker started for the Mets
and pitched well and Mark Canha led the offense with two hits.
Walker pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and a strikeout. Trevor May
pitched an inning giving up a hit, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three
runs with two walks and a strikeout. Ottavino took his first loss of the season. Sean Reid-Foley pitched
an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings with three
strikeouts.
Kyle Gibson started for the Phillies and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.
He walked five and struck out three, Jose Alvarado struck out both guys he faced, James Norwood
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Seranthony Dominguez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and he struck out one. Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with two walks and Corey Knebel
pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and he earned his fourth save of the
season.
Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and
Pete Alonso drew two walks. Eduardo Escobar drew a walk, Jeff McNeil drew a walk and Canha had two
hits. Dom Smith drew a walk, J.D. Davis drew a walk and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and they left 13 men on base. McCann committed an error and Walker had a pickoff.
Rhys Hoskins had a hit and an RBI, Nick Castellanos had a hit and JT Realmuto drew two walks.
Kyle Schwarber had a hit and two RBI, Alec Bohm had a hit and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera
had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Herrera hit two doubles, Schwarber and Hoskins each hit a
homerun. The Phillies were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Bohm
had a stolen base and Castellanos was picked off. Gibson committed an error.
In the bottom of the fifth Lindor reached on a fielders choice and a run scored giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh Schwarber hit a two-run homerun, Herrera hit an RBI double and in the eighth Hoskins
hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 4-1. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on
Sunday night.
