New York Yankees fail to deliver in the clutch as they fall to the San Francisco Giants

 The New York Yankees lost to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at 

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Clarke Schmidt started for the 

Yankees and he didn't pitch well, the bullpen also had their struggles.  Aaron Judge led the offense with 

three hits.  

Schmidt started for the Yankees pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk 

and five strikeouts.  Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Michael King

pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and he took his first

loss of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Clay 

Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Jimmy Cordero pitched to one 

batter and got him out.  

Alex Cobb started for the Giants and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one

being earned, he walked one and struck out six.  Jakob Junis pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three 

hits and a run with two strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  John Brebbia pitched 

a perfect inning, Taylor Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Camilo Doval pitched 

an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a stirkeout, he earned his first save of the

season.  

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, 

an RBI and drew two walks.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an 

RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had two hits, the first two of his major league 

career.  LeMahieu and Rizzo each hit a double and Stanton and Donaldson each hit a homerun.  

The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had a stolen

base.  

LaMonte Wade Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Thairo Estrada had a hit and an RBI and Joc 

Pederson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Yastrzemski had two hits and an RBI, David 

Villar had two hits and Brandon Crawford had three hits and three RBI.  Blake Sabol had a hit, 

Yastrzemski hit two doubles and Crawford hit a double.  Pederson and Crawford each hit a homerun.

The Giants were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Wade Jr. had a 

stolen base and Crawford had a stolen base.  Cobb committed an error.  

In the bottom of the first Stanton reached on a fielder's choice error and a run scored giving the Yankees

a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Stanton hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  

In the top of the fourth Pederson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  Crawford hit a two-run

homerun giving the Giants a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit an RBI double to tie the game

at three.  In the sixth Wade Jr. hit an RBI single giving the Giants back the lead at 4-3.  Estrada hit 

an RBI single pushing the Giants lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Donaldson hit a solo homerun

cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the top of the ninth Yastrzemski hit an RBI double and Crawford hit an 

RBI single extending the Giants lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Judge hit an RBI single cutting

the lead to 7-5 but that was as close as the Yankees would come as Stanton grounded into a double

play with the bases loaded to end the game.  

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series, the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
