New York Yankees shutout the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 2-0.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, and the bullpen also pitched well.  Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, Jose Trevino and Jon Berti each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Schmidt started and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six and earned his fourth win of the season.  Nick Burdi faced one batter and retired him; Luke Weaver pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Clay Holmes earned his 12^th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and two walks but struck out the side. 

Taj Bradley started for the Rays, and he pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Bradley took his first loss of the season.  Kevin Kelly pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Garrett Cleavinger pitched to one batter and struck him out and Jason Adam pitched a perfect inning.  Shawn Armstrong pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Stanton had two hits.  Rizzo had two hits and two RBI, Trevino had two hits and Berti had two hits.  Rizzo hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Berti had a stolen base and Schmidt had a pickoff. 

Yandy Diaz had two hits and drew a walk; Josh Lowe had a hit and drew a walk and Isaac Paredes drew a walk.  Austin Shenton had a pinch hit, Richie Palacios had a hit and Jose Caballero had a hit and drew a walk.  The Rays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Caballero and Palacios each had a stolen base.  Caballero and Paredes were caught stealing.  Arozarena was picked off and Lowe committed an error. 

In the fourth Rizzo hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Rizzo hit a solo homerun extending the lead to 2-0 and that was the final score.  The two teams will meet on Saturday afternoon in game two of three. 

New York Yankees take second straight over the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen did well and Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo led the offense with a couple of hits each. 

Schmidt pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with seven strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Caleb Ferguson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Luke Weaver pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out four and Clay Holmes pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Holmes earned his 11^th save of the season. 

Casey Mize started for the Tigers, and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Mize lost his first game of the season.  Tyler Holton pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and Will Vest pitched a perfect inning. 

Anthony Volpe drew a walk; Juan Soto had a hit and Judge had two hits and an RBI.  Alex Verdugo had a hit; Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI and Rizzo had two hits and three RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit; Jose Trevino had a hit and Judge hit a double.  Rizzo hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Riley Greene had a hit and an RBI, Wenceel Perez had two hits and Kerry Carpenter drew a walk.  Matt Vierling had two hits and an RBI, Colt Keith had an RBI and Andy Ibanez had a hit.  Zach McKinstry had a hit, Vierling hit a triple and Greene hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Greene hit a solo home run giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Stanton hit an RBI single tying the game at one.  In the bottom of the third Judge hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead and Rizzo hit a three-run home run pushing the Yankees lead to 5-1.  In the fourth Vierling hit an RBI triple and Keith hit a sac fly cutting the Yankees lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Yankees slug the Oakland Athletics

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched great.  Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Austin Wells each had two hits to lead the offensive attack.   

Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Schmidt won his second game of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Ian Hamilton pitched a perfect ninth inning. 

Joe Boyle started for the Athletics, and he pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Boyle picked up his fourth loss of the season.  Michael Kelly pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Dany Jimenez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Kyle Muller pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run. 

Volpe had two hits and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Judge had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Rizzo had two hits and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had an RBI and drew two walks; Wells had two hits and drew a walk and Volpe hit a triple.  Judge, Rizzo and Soto each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Tyler Nevin had a hit, JJ Bleday had a hit and Brent Rooker had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Lawrence Butler had a hit, Bleday and Nevin each hit a double and Rooker hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Noda and Allen each committed errors.  Butler had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Volpe hit an RBI triple pushing the lead to 3-0 and in the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 5-0.  In the top of the sixth Rooker hit a three-run homerun cutting the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Soto hit a solo homerun making it 6-3 and in the bottom of the seventh Verdugo hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will try and win the series on Thursday night. 

New York Yankees drop rubber game to the Toronto Blue Jays losing their first series of the year

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees and he was better but still not great.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits. 

Schmidt pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three unearned runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season, Michael King pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Ian Hamilton pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Kevin Gausman started for the Blue Jays and he pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and eleven strikeouts.  Gausman won his second game of the season.  Erik Swanson pitched an inning with a strikeout and Adam Cimber pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and LeMahieu had three hits.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit, LeMahieu hit a double and Rizzo hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Kiner-Falefa had a stolen base and Volpe committed an error. 

Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and two RBI, Daulton Varsho had a hit and an RBI and Matt Chapman had two hits.  Alejandro Kirk drew a walk, Whit Merrifield had a hit and drew a walk and Danny Jansen had a hit and two RBI.  Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk, Chapman, Merrifield and Jansen each hit a double and Guerrero and Varsho each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the sixth Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homerun giving the Jays a 2-0 lead.  Varsho hit a solo homerun and it was 3-0 Jays.  In the seventh Jansen hit an RBI double extending the lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Jansen hit an RBI groundout pushing the lead to 5-0 and in the bottom of the ninth Rizzo hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-1 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost their first series of the year dropping two out of three and will now head to Minnesota to begin a three-game series on Monday night. 

New York Yankees fail to deliver in the clutch as they fall to the San Francisco Giants

 The New York Yankees lost to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at 

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Clarke Schmidt started for the 

Yankees and he didn't pitch well, the bullpen also had their struggles.  Aaron Judge led the offense with 

three hits.  

Schmidt started for the Yankees pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk 

and five strikeouts.  Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Michael King

pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and he took his first

loss of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Clay 

Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Jimmy Cordero pitched to one 

batter and got him out.  

Alex Cobb started for the Giants and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one

being earned, he walked one and struck out six.  Jakob Junis pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three 

hits and a run with two strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  John Brebbia pitched 

a perfect inning, Taylor Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Camilo Doval pitched 

an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a stirkeout, he earned his first save of the

season.  

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, 

an RBI and drew two walks.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an 

RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had two hits, the first two of his major league 

career.  LeMahieu and Rizzo each hit a double and Stanton and Donaldson each hit a homerun.  

The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had a stolen

base.  

LaMonte Wade Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Thairo Estrada had a hit and an RBI and Joc 

Pederson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Yastrzemski had two hits and an RBI, David 

Villar had two hits and Brandon Crawford had three hits and three RBI.  Blake Sabol had a hit, 

Yastrzemski hit two doubles and Crawford hit a double.  Pederson and Crawford each hit a homerun.

The Giants were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Wade Jr. had a 

stolen base and Crawford had a stolen base.  Cobb committed an error.  

In the bottom of the first Stanton reached on a fielder's choice error and a run scored giving the Yankees

a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Stanton hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  

In the top of the fourth Pederson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  Crawford hit a two-run

homerun giving the Giants a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit an RBI double to tie the game

at three.  In the sixth Wade Jr. hit an RBI single giving the Giants back the lead at 4-3.  Estrada hit 

an RBI single pushing the Giants lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Donaldson hit a solo homerun

cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the top of the ninth Yastrzemski hit an RBI double and Crawford hit an 

RBI single extending the Giants lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Judge hit an RBI single cutting

the lead to 7-5 but that was as close as the Yankees would come as Stanton grounded into a double

play with the bases loaded to end the game.  

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series, the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
