New York Yankees defeat the Cincinnati Reds

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio and the final score was 6-2 Yankees.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was great.  Anthony Rizzo led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Schmidt pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Jimmy Cordero pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Nick Ramirez pitched an inning with a walk. 

Ben Lively started for the Reds and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Lively lost his second game of the season.  Ian Gibaut pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Alex Young pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Silvino Bracho pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with three walks.  Alan Busenitz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Harrison Bader had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rizzo had two hits and two RBI.  Gleyber Torres drew a walk, Anthony Volpe had a hit and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and two RBI.  DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Higashioka hit a double and Judge and Rizzo each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Jonathan India had a hit and drew a walk, Matt McLain had two hits and Jake Fraley had a hit and two RBI.  Spencer Steer had a hit and drew a walk, Henry Ramos drew two walks and Wil Myers had a hit and drew a walk.  McLain and Fraley each hit a double and the Reds were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Fraley had a stolen base and Ramos was caught stealing.  Gibaut committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Fraley hit a two-run double cutting the lead to 3-2.  In the ninth Higashioka hit a two-run double increasing the lead to 5-2 and Bader hit an RBI single making it a 6-2 game which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
