The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 8-3 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched terrible. Daniel Murphy and John Buck each had a couple of hits.
Gee pitched three innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with no walks and two strikeouts. Gee took the loss his second of the season. Greg Burke pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a couple of strikeouts, Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Brandon Lyon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Murphy had two hits, Buck had two hits and two RBI and Marlon Byrd had a hit. Lucas Duda had a hit, Justin Turner had a hit and Jordany Valdespin had a hit. Murphy hit a double, Valdespin hit a triple and Buck hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Duda and Turner each committed an error.
Cliff Lee started for the Phillies and he pitched 8 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two of them earned. Lee didn’t walk a batter and struck out six and he picked up his second win of the season and Mike Adams pitched to one batter and struck him out.
Ben Revere had a hit, Jimmy Rollins had a hit and an RBI and Chase Utley drew two walks. Ryan Howard had a hit and an RBI, Michael Young had three hits and two RBI and Domonic Brown had a hit. John Mayberry had two hits and three RBI, Erik Kratz had a hit and Lee had a hit and an RBI. Mayberry and Rollins each hit a double, Young a triple and a homerun and Howard and Mayberry each hit a homerun. The Phillies were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Utley had two stolen bases, Rollins committed an error and Kratz a passed ball.
Mayberry hit a two run double, Lee hit an RBI single and Rollins hit an RBI double in the second inning to give the Phillies a 4-0 lead. In the third Howard and Young hit back-to-back solo homeruns and Mayberry hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 7-0 lead. Buck hit a two run homerun in the fourth as his hot start to the season continues and made it 7-2 Phillies. Young hit an RBI triple in the fourth to make it 8-2 Phillies and that was the final run the Phillies would score. The Mets scored a run in the fifth on a passed ball to make it 8-3 and that would be the final score.
The Mets record dropped to 5-3 and the Phillies record improved to 3-5. The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.
