The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 6-3 on Wednesday night. The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. Hiroki Kuroda started and had his worst start of the year. The Yankees bullpen was good and Curtis Granderson led the offense with three hits.
Kuroda pitched 2+innings and had to leave after getting hit in the leg by a line drive. He gave up eight hits and five runs with no walks and no strikeouts. Preston Claiborne pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a couple of strikeouts and Adam Warren pitched four shutout innings giving up five hits and striking out two.
Granderson had three hits and an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI and Vernon Wells had a hit. Travis Hafner drew two walks, David Adams had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Granderson hit a double and a homerun and Adams hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Jason Hammel won his sixth game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Brian Matusz pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one and Darren O’Day pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.
Nate McClouth had a hit, Manny Machado had two hits and Nick Markakis had a hit and an RBI. Adam Jones had two hits, Chris Davis had four hits and two RBI and Matt Wieters had two hits and three RBI. J.J. Hardy had a hit, Alexi Casilla had a hit and Wieters and Jones each hit a double. Markakis, Davis and Weiters each hit a homerun. The Orioles were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. McClouth had a stolen base.
In the first Markakis hit a solo homerun and Davis hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead. Cano hit an RBI single in the third to make it a 3-1 game. Wieters hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1. Granderson hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-2 and the Yankees would add a run in the ninth on an Adams solo homerun. The final score was 6-3 Orioles.
The Yankees record fell to 28-18 and the Orioles record improved to 25-21. The Orioles won two out of three in the series. The Yankees have an off day on Thursday and then begin a three game series in Tampa Bay against the Rays on Friday night.
