The New York Mets lose 6-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday night. The final score was 6-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Daisuke Matsuzaka started and was ok and the bullpen was pretty good. Justin Turner had two hits to lead the offense.
Matsuzaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs. He walked four and struck out five and took his second loss of the season. Robert Carson pitched 1 2/3 David Aardsma pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one, Scott Atchison giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout and Pedro Feliciano pitched 2/3 of an inning.
Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk and Andrew Brown had a hit and an RBI. Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Turner had two hits. Matsuzaka had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Lagares, Turner and Brown each hit a double. The Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Young had two stolen bases and Murphy, Davis, Flores and Atchison each committed an error and Young had an outfield assist.
Cole Hamels won his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up nine hits. He gave up two runs and walked one with eight strikeouts, B.J. Rosenberg pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jake Diekman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Jimmy Rollins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chase Utley had two hits and Carlos Ruiz had two hits and an RBI. Michael Young had two hits, Asche had a hit and drew a walk and John Mayberry had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Orr had a hit and drew a walk, Ruf had a hit and Hamels had a hit and two RBI. Frandsen had an RBI, Rollins and Young each hit a double and Ruiz hit a homerun. The Phillies were 4-18 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. Rollins had a stolen base and Bernadina an outfield assist.
Davis hit an RBI single in the third to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Rollins hit an RBI double to tie the game at one in the fourth. In the fifth Mayberry was hit by a pitch scoring a run and Hamels hit a two run single to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead. Ruiz hit a solo homerun in the sixth and Brown hit an RBI double in the seventh to make it a 5-2 game. The Phillies would add a run in the ninth and the final score was 6-2 Phillies.
The Mets record fell to 59-72 and the Phillies record improved to 61-72. The two teams will play game four of four on Thursday afternoon.
