The New York Mets are shutout by Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0 Cardinals.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well.  The Mets only managed four hits. 

Gee pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gee lost his first game of the season.  Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up three hits and a walk with a strikeout and Jose Valverde pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Wainwright pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He struck out three and didn't walk a batter.  Siegrist pitched a perfect inning and Trevor Rosenthal pitched an inning walking two batters and striking out one.  Rosenthal earned his sixth save of the season. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Chris Young had a hit, Lucas Duda had a hit and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young was caught stealing, Quintanilla committed an error and Young Jr. and Granderson each had an outfield assist. 

Matt Carpenter had a hit, Matt Holliday had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Mike Adams had two hits.  Yadier Molina had a hit, John Jay had two hits and two RBI and Jhonny Peralta drew two walks.  Wainwright had a hit, Descalso drew a walk and the Cardinals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the fourth Jay hit a two run single giving the Cardinals the lead.  In the ninth they would add another run on a Holliday RBI single.  The final score was 3-0 Cardinals.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night and then complete the series on Thursday afternoon.
