The New York Yankees win second straight in Seattle



The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 4-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started and was great.  Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and 11 strikeouts.  The two runs were on one swing in the ninth by Cano hitting a homerun. 

Chris Young pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Tom Wilhelmsen pitched three innings giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Joe Beimel pitched an inning giving up a hit.   

Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Jeter had two hits and Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Jeter had two stolen bases. 

James Jones had two hits, Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI and Kyle Seager had a hit.  Mike Zunino had a hit, Brad Miller had a hit and Zunino hit a double.  Cano hit a homerun and the Mariners were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Zunino committed an error. 

In the third Ellsbury hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Teixeira hit a three run homerun in the fifth to extend the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Cano hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have taken the first two of the three game series and the finale will be on Thursday night.
