The New York Mets take the rubber game over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-3 Mets.  Jonathan Niese started and pitched pretty well and Daniel Murphy had two hits. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out six and won his sixth game of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Buchanan pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five and lost his sixth game of the season.  Justin De Fratus pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs, Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Cesar Jimenez pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Murphy had two hits, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares drew a walk.  Matt den Dekker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Anthony Recker had a hit and three RBI.  Niese had a hit, Murphy and den Dekker each hit a double.  Recker hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and an outfield assist. 

Wright hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Ruf hit a two run homerun to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh den Dekker hit an RBI double and Recker hit a three run homerun to give the Mets a 5-2 lead. In the ninth Utley hit an RBI double to make it 5-3 and that was the final score.  The Mets took three of four in the series.  They will begin a three game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.
