The New York Mets defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 6-1. Jon Niese started for the
Mets and pitched well. Curtis
Granderson, Lucas Duda, Juan Lagares and Travis d'Arnaud each had two
hits.
Niese pitched 6 1/3 innings giving
up nine hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Niese earned his first win of the
season. Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an
inning and Alex Torres pitched two innings giving up two walks and a strikeout.
Jerome Williams pitched five
innings giving up ten hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked one and struck out one and took his
first loss of the season. Justin De
Fratus pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a
strikeout and Dustin McGowan pitched two innings giving up a hit and walked
two.
Granderson had two hits, d'Arnaud
had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Duda had two hits and two RBI. Michael Cuddyer had a hit and drew a
walk. Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Eric
Campbell had a hit and Lagares had two hits and an RBI. Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew two walks,
Niese had a hit and an RBI and Cuddyer and Duda each hit a double. d'Arnaud and Duda each hit a homerun and the
Mets were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. Tejada committed an error.
Odubel Herrera had three hits,
Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Utley had an RBI. Jeff Francoeur drew a walk, Darin Ruf drew a
walk and Cody Asche had three hits and drew a walk. Cameron Rupp had two hits, Asche hit a double
and Herrera hit two doubles. Herrera hit
a triple and the Phillies were 2-16 with runners in scoring position and left
11 men on base. Asche committed an
error.
IN the first Utley had an RBI
groundout to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.
In the second Lagares hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun in the third to
give the Mets a 2-1 lead and in the fourth Niese hit an RBI single to make it a
3-1 game. In the fifth Duda hit a solo
homerun to increase the Mets lead to 4-1.
Campbell reached on a fielder's
choice and a run scored to make it 5-1.
Duda hit an RBI double in the sixth to push the lead to 6-1 and that was
the final score.
The Mets will begin a four game
series with the Miami Marlins on Thursday night at Citi Field.
