The New York Mets defeated the
Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon. The
game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-2
Mets. Steven Matz started and made his
MLB debut. He pitched well and he also
had three hits and four RBI to lead the offense. Curtis Granderson and Johnny Monell each had
two hits.
Matz pitched 7 2/3 innings giving
up five hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts. He won his first game of the season and
career. Carlos Torres pitched to one batter
and retired him and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out one.
Josh Smith lost his first game of
the season. Smith pitched five innings
giving up four hits and three runs with one of them being earned. He walked four and struck out three. Pedro Villarreal pitched 2 2/3 innings giving
up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned. He walked one and didn't strike out a batter,
Burke Badenhop pitched to one batter and retired him.
Granderson had two hits and two
RBI, Lucas Duda drew two walks and John Mayberry Jr. had a hit. Monell had two hits, Eric Campbell drew three
walks and Matz had three hits and four RBI.
Matz hit a double and Granderson hit a double. The Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
Cuddyer had a stolen base.
Brandon Phillips had a hit and an
RBI, Joey Votto drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI. Jay Bruce drew two walks, Skip Schumaker had
a hit and Marlon Byrd had a hit. Brayan
Pena had a hit, Eugenio Suarez had a hit and Phillips and Frazier each hit a
homerun. The Reds were 0-5 with runners
in scoring position and left five men on base.
Suarez and Phillips each committed an error and Bruce had an outfield assist.
In the first Phillips hit a solo
homerun that gave the Reds a 1-0 lead.
It was overturned on a replay review.
In the second Matz hit a two run double to give the Mets a 2-1
lead. In the fourth Frazier hit a solo
homerun to tie the game at two.
Granderson hit an RBI double in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. In the sixth Matz hit a two run single to
make it 5-2 Mets. In the sixth Tejada
hit a force out and a run scored making it 6-2.
Granderson hit an RBI single in the eighth and it was 7-2 which would be
the final score. The Mets will have the day off on Monday and
begin a three game series on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs at Citi
Field.
