New York Yankees take second in a row in Houston



The New  York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 9-6.  Masahiro Tanaka started and struggled for his second straight outing.  The Yankees bullpen was great and Chris Young, Brian McCann and Chase Headley each hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Bryan Mitchell pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Shreve won his fifth game of the season, Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one saving his sixth game of the season. 

Brett Oberholtzer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and six runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Roberto Hernandez pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and three walks and he struck out two, Josh Fields pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one, Pat Neshek lost his first game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked one.  Tony Sipp pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Brett Gardner had three hits and drew a walk, Young had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew two walks.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and two RBI, McCann had two hits and four RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran drew two walks.  Headley had a hit and an RBI, Didi Gregorius had two hits and Teixeira hit a double.  Gardner hit two doubles, McCann, Young and Headley each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Pirela had a stolen base. 

George Springer had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Carlos Correa had three hits and two RBI and Jose Altuve had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Luis Valbuena had a hit, Evan Gattis drew a walk and Domingo Santana had a hit.  Chris Carter had two hits and two RBI, Jason Castro had a hit and Santana, Carter, Correa and Valbuena each hit a double.  Carter, Correa and Altuve each hit a homerun.  The Astros were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Valbuena and Altuve each committed an error. 

In the first McCann hit a grand slam to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the second Young hit a two run homerun to make it a 6-0 game.  In the bottom of the second Carter hit an RBI double and Springer hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the fourth Carter hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-3 game.  In the fifth Correa hit a two run homerun and Altuve hit a solo homerun to tie the game at six.  The Yankees took back the lead in the eight and were able to hold onto it.  Teixeira hit a two run double in the eighth and Headley hit a solo homerun in the ninth to give the Yankees a 9-6 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the four game series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will then head to Anaheim for a three game series before returning home.
