The New York Mets were defeated by
the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 6-1. Jacob deGrom started and
didn't pitch very well. The Mets had
five hits and no one had more than one hit.
deGrom pitched 5 1/3 innings giving
up seven hits and four runs with three of them being earned. He walked two and struck out two and lost his
sixth game of the season. Logan Verrett
pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two walks and striking out three, Alex Torres
pitched an inning giving up a hit and tow runs with a walk.
Jake Arrieta won his eighth game of
the season pitching eight innings and giving up five hits and a run. He walked none and struck out seven. Travis Wood pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Curtis Granderson had a hit and an
RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit. Johnny Monell had a hit, deGrom had a hit and
deGrom, Granderson and Flores each hit a double. The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Murphy was picked off and Murphy committed an error.
Starlin Castro had two hits,
Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Miguel Montero had two hits
and two RBI. Chris Coughlan drew three
walks, Mike Baxter had a hit and Chris Denorfia had a hit. Jonathan Herrera had a hit, three RBI and
drew a walk. Herrera and Montero each
hit a homerun and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left
seven men on base. Coghlan had a stolen
base and Montero had a pickoff.
In the second Herrera hit a sac
bunt RBI to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. In
the third the Mets tied the score on a Granderson RBI double. The Cubs took the lead for good in the fifth. Rizzo hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 and in
the sixth Herrera hit a two run homerun to push the lead to 4-1. In the ninth Montero hit a two run homerun to
make it 6-1 and that would be the final score.
The Mets were swept in the three
game home series. They will head to the
West Coast now to begin a three game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on
Friday night.
