New York Yankees lose to woeful Philadelphia Phillies at home



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium and the final score was 11-8.  Michael Pineda started and wasn't very good.  Brett Gardner had four hits and Carlos Beltran had three hits. 

Pineda pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up 11 hits and eight runs with a walk and no strikeouts.  Pineda lost his fourth game of the season.  Chris Capuano pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts, Diego Moreno made his major league debut pitching an inning and giving up two hits with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Brandon Pinder pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Kevin Correia pitched four innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Jake Diekman pitched two innings giving up a hit and three walks with three strikeouts and he won his second game of the season.  Elvis Araujo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Ken Giles pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs. 

Gardner had four hits and three RBI with a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Beltran had three hits and an RBI, Garrett Jones had two hits and two RBI and Chris Young had a hit.  Stephen Drew had a hit and drew a walk, Beltran hit two doubles and Rodriguez and Jones each hit a double.  Gardner and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Ben Revere had three hits and an RBI, Ceser Hernandez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco had four hits and five RBI.  Ryan Howard had a hit and two RBI, Dominick Brown had a hit and Cameron Rupp had two hits.  Cody Asche had two hits, Freddy Galvis had three hits.  Hernandez, Brown and Galvis hit a double and Franco hit two homeruns.  The Phillies were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Revere had a stolen base and Brown had an outfield assist. 

In the first Franco hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  McCann hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  Beltran hit an RBI double and the Yankees had a 2-1 lead in the first.  In the third Howard hit a two run single to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead.  Brown grounded into a double play and a run scored to make it 4-2.  In the fourth Hernandez hit a two run double to increase the lead to 6-2.  Franco hit a two run single and it was 8-2 in the fourth inning.  Gardner hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the fifth and the lead was cut to 8-5.  In the sixth Franco hit a two run homerun to make it 10-5.  McCann hit a solo homerun to make it 10-6 in the seventh.  Revere hit an RBI single in the ninth to push the lead to 11-6 and Jones hit a two run double in the ninth to cut the lead to 11-8 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
