The New York Yankees defeated the
Seattle Mariners on Monday night. The
game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was
7-2 Yankees. Michael Pineda started for
the Yankees and pitched very well. Mark
Teixeira hit a grand slam to lead the offense.
Pineda pitched into the seventh
inning but then ran into trouble. He
gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out nine. Pineda won his seventh game of the
season. Justin Wilson pitched a perfect
inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning striking out the
side and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Felix Hernandez pitched 4 2/3
innings giving up six hits and seven runs with five walks and four
strikeouts. Mayckol Guaipe pitched 2 1/3
innings and struck out two and Dominic Leone pitched two innings giving up a
hit and striking out two.
Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a
walk, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew
a walk. Mark Teixeira had a hit, four
RBI and drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Stephen Drew
had a hit and drew a walk. Ramon Flores
had a hit, Beltran hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Gregorius committed an error.
Logan Morrison had a hit, Nelson
Cruz had a hit and Kyle Seager had two hits.
Seth Smith had a hit and an RBI and Justin Ruggiano had a hit. Austin Jackson had two hits and an RBI, Brad
Miller drew two walks and Jackson hit a double.
Smith hit a triple and the Mariners were 1-6 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base.
Jackson was caught stealing.
In the fourth a wild pitch scored a
run and gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead. McCann
grounded into a double pay and it was 2-0 Yankees. In the fifth Headley hit a sac fly to make it
3-0 Yankees. Teixeira hit a grand slam
to increase the lead to 7-0. In the
bottom of the seventh Smith hit an RBI
triple to make it 7-1. Jackson hit an
RBI double to make it 7-2. The Yankees
and Mariners will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday
night.
