The New York Yankees defeated the
Seattle Mariners on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final
score was 3-1. Masahiro Tanaka made his
first start in over a month after coming back from an arm injury. He pitched great for the Yankees and Garrett
Jones and Mark Teixeira each hit a homerun.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up a run on three hits. He walked none
and struck out nine and picked up his third
win of the season. Chris Capuano pitched
1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Andrew Miller pitched
1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
Taijuan Walker pitched eight
innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and seven
strikeouts. Walker lost his sixth game
of the season. Charlie Furbush pitched a
perfect inning.
Chase Headley had a hit, Alex
Rodriguez drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI. Jones had a hit and two RBI, Didi Gregorius had
two hits and Headley hit a double.
Teixeira and Jones each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with
runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Flores had an outfield assist.
Logan Morrison had a hit, Kyle
Seager had a hit and Justin Ruggiano had a hit.
Brad Miller had a hit, Dustin Ackley had a hit and an RBI and Ackley hit
a double and Miller hit a triple. The
Mariners were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on
base.
In the second Teixeira hit a solo
homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
The Mariners tied the game at one in the third on an Ackley RBI
double. In the fourth Jones hit a two
run homerun to make it 3-1 Yankees. The
final score was 3-1 Yankees.
The Yankees swept the three game
series and after a day off on Thursday they will begin a three game series with
the Anaheim Angels on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
