The New York Yankees sweep the Anaheim Angels to win sixth in a row



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2 Yankees.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and started off bad but pitched well and then got ejected.  Brett Gardner, Chris Young and Jose Pirela each hit a homerun.  Pirela hit his first major league homerun. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up two runs on five hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and picked up his third win of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a walk, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

C.J. Wilson lost his fifth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and six runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning walking one and striking out two. 

Gardner had a hit and three RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Chris Young had a hit and an RBI, Pirela had two hits and an RBI and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela hit a double,  Young, Gardner and Pirela each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Headley committed an error and Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Erick Aybar had a hit, Mike Trout had a hit and an RBI and Albert Pujols had two hits and an RBI.  David Freese had a hit and drew a walk, Chris Iannetta drew a walk and Freese hit a double and Trout and Pujols each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the first Trout and Pujols hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Angels a 2-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  Young hit a solo homerun in the fifth to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Gardner hit a three run homerun and gave the Yankees a 5-2 lead.  Pirela hit his first major league homerun in the seventh to make it 6-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have now won six in a row and will have the day off on Monday.  They will begin a brief two game series against the Washington Nationals at home on Tuesday night.  It will be a marquee matchup with Masahiro Tanaka going up against Max Scherzer.
