The New York
Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.
Luis Severino started for the Yankees and made his highly anticipated
major league debut. He didn't
dissappoint but Steven Wright the Red Sox pitcher completely shut down the
Yankees offense.
Severino pitched
five innings giving up two runs with only one of them being earned. He walked none and struck out seven and took
his first loss of the season and career. Adam Warren pitched three innings giving up a
hit and he struck out two and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he walked two with a strikeout.
Wright won his
fifth game of the season pitching eight
innings and giving up four hits and a run with two walks and nine
strikeouts. Koji Uehara picked up his
24th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk.
Brett Gardner
drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk. Chase Headley drew a walk,
Didi Gregorius had a hit and John Ryan Murphy had two hits. Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were
0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Headley committed an error.
David Ortiz had
a hit and an RBI, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Mike Napoli drew a walk. Alejandro De Aza had a hit and an RBI, Rusney
Castillo drew a walk and De Aza hit a double and Sandoval hit two doubles. Ortiz hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 1-5
with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Swihart had a passed ball.
In the second De
Aza hit an RBI double giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Ortiz hit a solo homerun to
extend the lead to 2-0. Beltran hit a
solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final
score. The two teams have split the
first two games and play the third and final game of the series on Thursday
night.
