The New York Mets blowout the Marlins in Miami



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 12-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well, Michael Conforto hit his first major league homerun and Yoenis Cespedes hit three doubles. 

Colon pitched eight innings giving up a run on seven hits.  He walked none and struck out five and earned his tenth win of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched a perfect inning. 

Tom Koehler pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with six of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out six and took his eighth loss of the season.  Andre Rienzo pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Chris Reed pitched two innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Brian Ellington pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Cespedes had three hits and four RBI.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Lucas Duda drew two walks and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Kelly Johnson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and Conforto had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Colon had a hit, Cespedes hit three doubles, d'Arnaud hit two doubles and Flores hit a double.  Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 8-17 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Christian Yelich had three hits and an RBI.  Martin Prado had a hit, Casey McGehee had a hit and Yelich hit two doubles.  The Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Yelich had a stolen base and McGehee committed an error. 

In the second Conforto hit a three run homerun to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the fifth Cespedes  hit a two run double to make it 5-0 Mets.  Flores hit an RBI double and Johnson hit an RBI groundout and it was 7-0 Mets.  In the sixth Cespedes hit a two run double to increase the Mets lead to 9-0.  A wild pitch made it 10-0 Mets.  In the seventh inning Granderson hit a two run single to push the lead to 12-0.  Yelich got the Marlins on the board in the eighth with an RBI double to make it 12-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Mets took over sole possession of first place with their win and the Nationals losing.
