The New York Yankees defeated the
Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida
and the final score was 3-2. Michael
Pineda started and pitched well as he has all spring. Starlin Castro led the offense with a couple
of hits and an RBI.
Pineda pitched four innings giving
up four hits and a run with no walks and four strikeouts. Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up
two hits and a run with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning and
Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning.
Diego Moreno pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and
Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.
Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Alex
Rodriguez had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Chase
Headley had a hit and an RBI and Castro had two hits and an RBI. Carlos Corporan had a hit, Headley hit a
double and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left four
men on base. Castro had a stolen base
and Chris Denorfia had an outfield assist.
In the third Blake Lalli hit an RBI
single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. In
the bottom of the fourth Beltran hit an RBI single to tie the game at one and
Headley hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Castro hit an RBI single to make it 3-1
Yankees. IN the fifth Jace Peterson hit
an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees improved their record
to 7-9 with a couple of ties in the spring.
They have picked it up lately as they got off to a bad start. The Yankees will travel to Fort Myers,
Florida to take on the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.
