New York Mets win a close one over the Cleveland Indians



The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 6-5.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  Yoenis Cespedes led the offense with three hits. 

Colon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Hansel Robles pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia saved his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Cody Anderson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Ross Detwiler pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Joba Chamberlain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Trevor Bauer pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Dan Otero pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had two hits and an RBI.  Cespedes had three hits and two RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Neil Walker had two hits and two RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza had three hits and an RBI and Cabrera hit a double.  De Aza and Cespedes hit a double.  Conforto, De Aza, Cespedes and Walker each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Conforto and Wright each committed an error. 

Rajai Davis had a hit, Jeff Kipnis had three hits and an RBI and Mike Napoli had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Yan Gomes had a hit and Marlon Byrd had two hits and an RBI.  Juan Uribe had three hits and drew a walk, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Kipnis  hit two doubles.  Uribe and Napoli each hit a double and Santana hit a homerun.  The Indians were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Davis had a stolen base,  Lindor committed an error and Gomes had a passed ball.  Byrd and Davis each had an outfield assist. 

In the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Napoli hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth De Aza hit a solo homerun to give the Mets back the lead at 2-1.  Cespedes hit a two run homerun in the fifth to push the lead to 4-1, Walker hit a two run homerun to make it 6-1 still in the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth Kipnis hit an RBI double and the lead got cut down to 6-2.  In the bottom of the ninth Santana hit a two run homerun to make it 6-4 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Mets record now stands at 4-5 on the young season.
