The New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies behind Noah Syndergaard



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-2.  Noah Syndergaard started and pitched very well again.  The offense was led by David Wright hitting two homeruns, Lucas Duda had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits. 

Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out three and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Jerad Eickhoff started for the Phillies and pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Eickhoff lost his second game of the season.  David Hernandez pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts and Elvis Araujo pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Wright had two hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, Duda had two hits and two RBI and Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI.  Cabrera had three hits, Syndergaard drwe a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Cabrera and Duda each hit a double and Cespedes hit a triple.  Wright hit two homeruns and Duda and Walker hit back-to-back homeruns.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Freddy Galvis had a hit, Odubel Herrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco had a hit.  Ryan Howard had a hit and drew a walk, Cameron Rupp had a hit and David Lough had a hit.  Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk, Andres Blanco had an RBI and Galvis and Lough each hit a double.  The Phillies were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Lough, Galvis and Herrera each had a stolen base. 

In the first Wright hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Herrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and in the eighth Duda hit a solo homerun to make it 3-1.  One batter after Duda Walker hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 Mets.  Wright hit his second homerun of the game in the ninth to make it 5-1 and in the bottom of the ninth Blanco hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets record improved to 6-6 on the season and they will play game two on Tuesday night.
