New York Yankees drop series finale against the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  The Yankees only offense was a Brett Gardner homerun in the ninth.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and although he was better he still gave up three homeruns. 

Severino pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out nine and fell to 0-5 on the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and he struck out one and Johnny Barbato pitched a perfect inning. 

Steven Wright pitched a complete game for the Red Sox.  He gave up three hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts and he won his third game of the season. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit.  Dustin Ackley drew a walk, Castro hit a double and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Barbato committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Mookie Betts drew a walk, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and two RBI and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and an RBI.  David Ortiz had two hits and two RBI, Brock Holt had a hit and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Bradley hit a double, Pedroia and Bogaerts each hit a homerun and Ortiz hit two homeruns.  The Red Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Ramirez had a stolen base. 

In the first Pedroia hit a two run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Ortiz hit a solo homerun making it 3-0 and another solo homerun in the seventh to push the lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Bogaerts hit a solo homerun and it was 5-0 Red Sox.  Gardner hit a solo homerun in the ninth to spoil the shutout and make it 5-1 which would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will remain at home to begin a four game set with the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
