The New York Yankees double up the Kansas City Royals



The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Ivan Nova made his first start of the year for the Yankees and pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good and Aroldis Chapman made his season and Yankees debut.  The Yankees offense hit five homeruns. 

Nova pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Phil Coke walked a batter in 2/3 of an inning, Kirby Yates won his second game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits adn a run and he struck out two. 

Chris Young started for the Royals and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Young lost his fifth game of the season and Dillon Gee pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and two RBI and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had two hits and two RBI, Dustin Ackley had a hit and Ben Gamel had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and McCann, Gardner and Hicks each hit a homerun and Beltran hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Nova committed an error. 

Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and Eric Hosmer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Alex Gordon had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Salvador Perez had a hit and Omar Infante had two hits.  Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit, Paulo Orlando had a hit and Orlando hit a double, Gordon and Hosmer each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base. 

In the first McCann hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Gordon hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the second Beltran hit a solo homerun and in the third Gardner hit a solo homerun and made it 3-1 Yankees.  Hicks hit a solo homerun and Beltran hit a solo homerun still in the third to make it 5-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Hicks hit a sac fly and the Yankees lead increased to 6-1.  Hosmer hti a solo homerun in the eighth and in the ninth Escobar hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3 which would be the final score.  The Yankees have now won three out of their last four games. 

The Yankees and Royals will play game two of four on Tuesday night.  The Yankees will try to keep their winning going as they have won three of their last four and four out of their last six games.
