New York Mets fall to the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did not pitch very well.  Wilmer Flores had two hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched seven innings and giving up six hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched without getting an out, he gave up two hits and three runs with a walk and Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Bud Norris won his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  Jim Johnson pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Alexi Ogando pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Arodys Vizcaino pitched to one batter and struck him out.  He earned his tenth save of the season. 

Kelly Johnson had a hit, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI.  Neil Walker had a hit, James Loney had a hit and Flores had two hits and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit, Reynolds and Walker hit a double.  The Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Johnson had a stolen base and Loney committed an error. 

Jace Peterson had two hits, Ender Inciarte had a hit and Freddie Freeman had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI, Adonis Garcia had a hit and three RBI and Jeff Francoeur had a hit.  Emilio Bonifacio drew a walk, Markakis, Freeman and Francoeur hit a double and Freeman and Garcia hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Inciarte had a stolen base and committed an error. 

In the first Freeman hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Markakis hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  Garcia hit a three run homerun in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the ninth Cespedes hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-1 and Flores hit an RBI single to make it 5-2 but that would be the final score. 

The teams split the four game series and the Mets will head to Washington for a big three game series on Monday night.
