The New York Yankees defeated the
Minnesota Twins on Friday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 5-3. Masahiro Tanaka started and
pitched ok and the bullpen was great.
Alex Rodriguez had two hits to lead the offense.
Tanaka pitched six innings giving
up three runs on seven hits and he walked two and struck out seven. Tanaka picked up his fifth win of the
season. Dellin Betances pitched a
perfect inning with a strikeout, Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout and Aroldis Chapman saved his 14th game of the season pitching a
perfect inning and striking out the side.
Tommy Milone lost his second game
of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with one
of them being earned. He walked two and
struck out one. Neil Ramirez pitched 2
1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Ryan Pressly
pitched an inning with a strikeout and Buddy Boshers pitched an inning giving
up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.
Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI,
Carlos Beltran had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rodriguez had two hits and
an RBI. Starlin Castro had a hit, Chase
Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit. Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk, Austin Romine had an RBI and Beltran hit a double. Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9
with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
Eduardo Nunez had a hit and two
RBI, Joe Mauer drew a walk and Brian Dozier had two hits. Eduardo Escobar had a hit, Byung Ho Park drew
a walk and Kurt Suzuki had two hits. Byron
Buxton had a hit and an RBI, Dozier, Buxton and Suzuki each hit a double. The Twins were 1-8 with runners in scoring
position and left five men on base.
Escobar, Grossman and Mauer each committed an error.
In the third Nunez hit a two run
single to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. In
the third Beltran hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1. Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the third to
tie the game at two. In the fourth
Buxton hit an RBI groundout to give the Twins back the lead at 3-2. Romine hit a sac fly in the bottom of the
third and the game was tied at three. In
the fourth Refsnyder hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and in
the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-3 which would be
the final score.
The Yankees will try to sweep the
three game series on Sunday afternoon.
They will then remain home to play three games against the AL best Texas
Rangers.
