The New York Mets fail to sweep and are shutout in Miami



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 1-0.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched very well but Jose Fernandez dominated the Mets.  The Mets only managed four hits and one extra base hit. 

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Harvey took his eighth loss of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Fernandez pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and 14 strikeouts.  He earned his ninth win of the season.  David Phelps pitched a perfect inning and A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his 18th save of the season. 

Alejandro De Aza had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit.  James Loney had a hit, Granderson hit a double and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bastardo had a pickoff. 

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Christian Yelich had a hit and Derek Dietrich had two hits.  J.T. Realmuto had a hit and an RBI, Dietrich hit a double and the Marlins were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left three on base.  Suzuki was caught stealing. 

In the fifth Realmuto hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead and that would be the only run of the game.  The Mets took two out of three in the series.  The Mets will begin a three game series in Pittsburgh with the Pirates on Monday night.
