The New York Yankees win their fifth straight in victory over the Detroit Tigers



The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-0.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched great.  Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead their offense. 

Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sabathia earned his fourth win of the year.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Anthony Swarzak pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Mike Pelfrey started for the Tigers and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked five and struck out two and lost his sixth game of the season.  Blaine Hardy pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Chase Headley drew a walk and Gregorius hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Sabathia committed an error. 

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Cameron Maybin had a hit and Victor Martinez had a hit.  J.D. Martinez had two hits and drew a walk, Justin Upton drew a walk and Jose Iglesias had a hit.  The Tigers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  McCann committed an error and Upton had an outfield assist. 

In the first B. McCann had an RBI walk and Gregorius hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the third Beltran hit an RBI single to extend the Yankees lead to 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won five straight games and will look for their sixth straight on Saturday night and to take the series against Detroit.  They will finish the series and homestand with Old Timers Day on Sunday afternoon.
