The New York Yankees defeated the
Anaheim Angels on Monday night. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
5-2. Masahiro Tanaka started for the
Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was really good. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Carlos
Beltran had three RBI to lead the offense.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up six hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Andrew Miller won his third game of the
season pitching a perfect inning and striking out the side and Aroldis Chapman
saved his 10th game of the season. He
pitched an inning striking out one.
Matt Shoemaker pitched 7 2/3
innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and six
strikeouts. He lost his seventh game of
the season and Jose Alvarez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a
run.
Ellsbury had three hits, Brett
Gardner had a hit and Beltran had two hits and three RBI. Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Starlin
Castro had two hits and an RBI and Ellsbury hit a double. McCann, Castro and Beltran each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 1-2 with
runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Ellsbury was caught stealing.
Yunel Escobar had a hit, Kole
Calhoun had an RBI and Mike Trout drew a walk.
Albert Pujols had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, C.J. Cron had a hit
and Gregorio Petit had two hits. Petit
hit a double and the Angels were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left
five men on base. Trout had a stolen
base and Ortega had an outfield assist.
In the first Pujols hit an RBI
single to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. In
the third Calhoun hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Angels. In the seventh McCann hit a solo homerun to
cut the lead to 2-1. Castro hit a solo
homerun to tie the game at two and in the eighth Beltran hit a three run
homerun to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
four on Tuesday night.
