The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final
score was 5-2. CC Sabathia started for
the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.
The bullpen did a good job. Brett
Gardner had two of the teams five hits.
Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings
giving up nine hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked three and struck out two and lost
his seventh game of the season. Anthony
Swarzak pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs with a walk and two
strikeouts and Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Eduardo Rodriguez started for the
Red Sox and he pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two
walks and a strikeout. Rodriguez won his
second game of the season. Matt Barnes
pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Koji Uehara
pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he saved his sixth game of the
season.
Gardner had two hits, an RBI and
drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit. Didi Gregorius had a hit, Chase Headley had a
hit and an RBI and Gregorius hit a double.
Gardner and Headley each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with
runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Gregorius and Headley each committed an
error.
Mookie Betts had two hits and drew
a walk, Dustin Pedroia drew two walks and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI. David Ortiz had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie
Bradley Jr. had three hits and Aaron Hill had a hit. Bryce Brentz had a hit, Sandy Leon had two
hits and four RBI and Leon hit a homerun.
The Red Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men
on base.
In the third Bogaerts grounded into
a force out and a run scored. Gardner
hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one. In the fourth Leon hit an RBI single to give
the Red Sox a 2-1 lead. In the sixth
Leon hit a three run homerun to make it a 5-1 game. Headley hit a solo homerun in the eighth to
cut the lead to 5-2 but that would be the final score.
The two teams will finish their
three game series on Sunday night. The
Yankees will be looking to avoid the sweep.
