The New York Mets lose to the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 4-2.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well and the bullpen did a pretty good job.  The Mets offense only managed six hits and no one had more than a hit. 

Verrett pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins lost his first game of the season.  He gave up an unearned run and a walk with a strikeout, Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Antonio Bastardo pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Jerad Eickhoff pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Edubray Ramos pitched an inning with a walk and he won his first game of the season, Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two and Jeanmar Gomez pitched an inning with a strikeout and he earned his 25th save of the season. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Neil Walker drew a walk, James Loney  had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI.  Juan Lagares had a hit including a double.  Granderson and d'Arnaud each hit a double adn the Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Cabrera committed an error. 

Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew a walk, Cody Asche had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI.  Ryan Howard had a hit and an RBI, Andres Blanco had a hit and Carlos Ruiz had two hits.  Freddy Galvis had a hit and Eickhoff had two hits.  Eickhoff, Herrerra and Ruiz each hit a double and Howard hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second Howard hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the third Reyes hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Asche hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to tie the game at two and in the seventh Franco hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Phillies.  In the eighth they would add an insurance run on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 which was the final score.  The two teams will play their third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
