The New York
Mets were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The game took place at Comerica Park in
Detroit, Michigan. Noah Syndergaard
started and he pitched ok but not great and Neil Walker led the offense with
two hits.
Syndergaard
pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and seven
strikeouts. He lost his sixth game of
the season and Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck
out two.
Justin Verlander
started for the Tigers and pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs
with a walk and nine strikeouts.
Verlander won his 12th game of the season. Shane Greene pitched a perfect inning with a
couple of strikeouts, Justin Wilson pitched an inning with a strikeout and
Francisco Rodriguez saved his 31st game of the season pitching an inning and
giving up a hit and a run.
Walker had two
hits, Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk and James Loney had a hit and an
RBI. Kelly Johnson had a hit and two
RBI, Johnson hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring
position and left three men on base.
Ian Kinsler had
two hits, Miguel Cabrera had two hits and an RBI and Victor Martinez had a hit,
two RBI and drew a walk. J.D. Martinez
had two hits, Nick Castellanos drew a walk and James McCann had a hit and an
RBI. Martinez, J hit a double and
Martinez, V hit a homerun. The Tigers
were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Kinsler had two stolen bases and McCann had a
passed ball.
In the first
Cabrera hit an RBI ground out to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Johnson hit a two run homerun
to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. In the
bottom of the fourth Martinez, V hit a two run homerun to give the Tigers a 3-2
lead. McCann hit an RBI single and it
was 4-2 Tigers. In the ninth Loney hit
an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score.
The two teams
will play game two of three on Saturday night.
