The New York
Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.
CC Sabathia started and he pitched ok and the bullpen wasn't great. Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks each had two
hits.
Sabathia pitched
5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with four walks and five
strikeouts. Sabathia lost his ninth game
of the season. Anthony Swarzak pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve
pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nick Goody
pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up a hit and he struck out two.
Corey Kluber
pitched eight innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and eight strikeouts. He won his 11th game of the season. Andrew Miller earned his tenth save of the
season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two.
Gardner had two
hits and drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an
RBI. Hicks had two hits, Sanchez hit a
double and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left two
men on base. Hicks was caught stealing
and Sanchez had a passed ball.
Rajai Davis had
two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Jeff Kipnis had two hits, two RBI and drew a
walk and Francisco Lindor had two hits.
Mike Napoli had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Santana had two hits and drew a
walk and Jose Ramirez had a hit. Brandon Guyer drew a walk, Lonnie Chisenhall
drew a walk and Abraham Almonte drew a walk.
Kipnis, Napoli and Davis each hit a homerun and the Indians were 3-8
with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Kipnis and Lindor each had a stolen base,
Almonte had an outfield assist.
In the second
Sanchez hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the second a wild pitch made it 2-0
Yankees. In the fourth Kipnis hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 2-1. Davis
hit an RBI single to tie the game in the fifth and in the sixth Napoli hit a
solo homerun to give the Indians a 3-2 lead.
Davis hit a solo homerun in the seventh and in the ninth Kipnis hit an
RBI single making it 5-2 and that would be the final score.
The series is
tied at one game each and the rubber game will be on Sunday afternoon.
