The New York
Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston,
Massachusetts and the final score was 5-3.
Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well but
the bullpen did. Brett Gardner had three
hits and Chase Headley had two hits.
Severino pitched
4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs. He didn't walk a batter and he struck out
three and lost his seventh game of the season.
Tommy Layne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one,
Anthony Swarzak pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout
and Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and retired him.
Rick Porcello
won his 15th game of the season pitching eight innings and he gave up seven
hits and two runs. He walked one and
struck out six. Craig Kimbrel pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a run and four walks with a strikeout and Matt
Barnes pitched 1/3 of an inning and struck out a batter.
Gardner had
three hits and drew a walk, Jacboy Ellsbury had an RBI and drew two walks and
Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.
Starlin Castro had a hit, Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk
and Aaron Hicks drew a walk. Castro hit
a double and Headley and Gardner hit two doubles each. The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring
position and left nine men on base.
Mookie Betts had
a hit, Dustin Pedroia had two hits and three RBI and David Ortiz had a hit, an
RBI and drew a walk. Jackie Bradley Jr.
had a hit, Sandy Leon had a hit and Andrew Benintendi had three hits and an
RBI. Betts, and Benintendi each hit a
double and Pedroia hit two doubles. Leon
hit a triple and the Red Sox were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left
three men on base. Shaw committed an
error and Leon had a passed ball.
Bradley Jr. had an outfield assist.
In the second
Headley hit an RBI double, in the third McCann hit an RBI single and it was 2-0
Yankees. Pedroia hit a two run double in
the bottom of the third to tie the game at two.
In the bottom of the fifth Benintendi hit an RBI double to give the Red
Sox a 3-2 lead. Pedroia hit an RBI double
to extend the lead to 4-2. In the fifth
Ortiz hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-2. In the ninth Ellsbury had an RBI walk to cut
the lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score.
The two teams
will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
