The New York
Yankees defeated the New York Mets on
Monday night. The game took place at
Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he
didn't pitch very well but the bullpen did.
Logan Verrett started for the Mets and pitched pretty well and their
bullpen blew the lead. The Yankees
offense was led by Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner who had two hits each and
the Mets by Matt Reynolds who had a big three run homerun.
Sabathia pitched
5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with three walks and five
strikeouts. Richard Bleier gave up a hit
and a walk without recording an out, Nick Goody retired the only batter that he
faced and Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out
two. Adam Warren won his fourth game of
the season pitching two innings and not giving up a hit or a run and he walked
one and struck out two. Dellin Betances
earned his first save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and
he struck out one.
Verrett pitched
five innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and two
strikeouts. Erik Goeddel pitched a
perfect inning, Hansel Robles pitched an inning striking out one and Jerry
Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a
strikeout. Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of
an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Jeurys Familia pitched
an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Seth Lugo pitched an
inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he took his
first loss of the season.
Gardner had two
hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and
Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk.
Brian McCann had a hit, Didi Gregorius
had a hit and two RBI and Starlin Castro had an RBI and drew a
walk. Rob Refsnyder drew a walk, Austin
Romine drew a walk and Ellsbury and Gardner each hit a double. Gardner hit a triple and the Yankees were
3-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Castro and Romine each had a passed
ball.
Curtis
Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Travis d'Arnaud had two hits, James Loney had
two hits and Reynolds had two hits and three RBI. Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo
had a hit and Steven Matz drew a walk.
Reynolds, Conforto and Loney each hit a double and Flores and Reynolds
each hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-7
with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. De Aza committed an error and Granderson had
an outfield assist.
In the second
Flores hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the fourth a wild pitch tied the game at
one. In the fifth Gardner hit an RBI
double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.
Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the fifth and it was 3-1 Yankees. Conforto hit an RBI double in the bottom of
the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2.
Reynolds hit a three run homerun in the sixth and the Mets took a 5-3
lead. In the eighth Gregorius hit a two
run single to tie the game at five and then in the tenth Castro hit a sac fly
to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead which would be the final score.
The two teams
will play game two of four on Tuesday night and the last game at Citi Field
between the two teams. They will then
shift to Yankee Stadium for games on Wednesday and Thursday night.
