The New York
Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St.
Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 6-3. Nathan Eovaldi started and he pitched well
especially after a bad start. Anthony
Swarzak didn't pitch well in relief.
Chase Headley led the offense with a couple of hits.
Eovaldi pitched
six innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and four
strikeouts. He lost his seventh game of
the season. Swarzak pitched an inning
giving up three hits dna three runs, Richard Bleier gave up a hit and didn't
record an out and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Drew Smyly won
his third game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and
two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.
Matt Andriese pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk
and a strikeout and Alex Colome pitched a perfect inning striking out the side
and earning his 24th save of the season.
Brett Gardner
had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Starlin Castro
had a hit. Headley had two hits, an RBI
and drew a walk, Castro hit a double and Gardner and Headley each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 1-3 with
runners in scoring position and left three men on base.
Brad Miller had
two hits and an RBI, Steve Pearce drew a walk and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and
drew a walk. Steven Souza Jr. had a hit
and an RBI, Tim Beckham had two hits and two RBI and Curt Casali had a hit and
two RBI. Kiermaier hit a double and
Miller and Casali each hit a homerun.
The Rays were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on
base. Kiermaier had a stolen base and
Pearce was caught stealing. Casali
committed an error.
In the first
Miller hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. Gardner hit a two run homerun in the third to
give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Casali hit
a two run homerun in the third to give the Rays back the lead at 3-2. In the seventh Souza Jr. hit an RBI single to
extend the lead to 4-2. Beckham hit a
two run homerun in the seventh and it was 6-2 Rays. Headley hit a solo homerun in the eighth and
the score was 6-3 which would end up being the final score.
The two teams
will play the third and final game on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees are now 2-3 on their current
eight game road trip with the last two being at Citi Field in New York against
the Mets.
