The New York Mets defeated the
Minnesota Twins on Friday night. The
game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
3-0. Bartolo Colon started for the Mets
and pitched well and the bullpen held the lead.
James Loney had two hits to lead the offense.
Colon pitched seven innings giving
up three hits and no runs. He walked two
and struck out six and earned his 14th game of the season. Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a
couple of strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with two walks. Familia saved his 49th game of the
season.
Jose Berrios pitched four innings
giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts. He lost his seventh game of the season. Michael Tonkin pitched an inning with a walk,
Pat Dean pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Pat Light
pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a
strikeout. Ryan O'Rourke pitched to two
batters and retired them both and Buddy Boshers pitched an inning and struck
out two.
Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Yoenis
Cespedes had a hit and an RBI. Curtis
Granderson drew a walk, Jay Bruce drew a walk and TJ Rivera had a hit. Loney had two hits, Alejandro De Aza had a
hit and Loney hit a double. Reyes and
Cabrera each hit a homerun. The Mets
were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Cespedes committed an error and Colon had a
pickoff.
Brian Dozier hada hit, Joe Mauer
drew three walks and Jorge Polanco had a hit.
Kurt Suzuki drew a walk, Berrios had a hit and the Twins were 0-2 with
runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Kepler was picked off.
In the third Reyes and Cabrera each
hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh Cespedes hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-0
and that would be the final score.
The two teams will continue their
series on Saturday.
