The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.
The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the
final score was 5-1. Jordan Montgomery
started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, really making one big mistake. Chad Green was great out of the bullpen and
Aaron Judge and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits to lead the offense.
Montgomery pitched five innings
giving up four hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts. He lost his third game of the season and Chad
Green pitched three shutout innings giving up a hit and striking out six.
Danny Duffy won his third game of
the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out ten. Mike Minor pitched an inning giving up a hit
and he struck out two and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up three hits
and a run with two strikeouts.
Ellsbury had two hits, Gary Sanchez
had a hit and Matt Holliday drew a walk.
Starlin Castro had a hit, Judge had two hits and Didi Gregorius had a
hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Ellsbury
and Castro each hit a double and the Yankees were 2-14 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Alcides Escobar drew a walk, Mike
Moustakas had a hit and three RBI and Eric Hosmer drew a walk. Jorge Bonifacio had a hit and drew a walk,
Whit Merrifield had two hits and an RBI and Drew Butera had a hit and an
RBI. Moustakas hit a homerun and the
Royals were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Moustakas and Cain each committed an
error.
In the second Merrifield hit an RBI
single to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
Butera hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. In the fifth Moustakas hit a three-run
homerun to give the Royals a 5-0 lead.
In the ninth Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 and that would
be the final score. The Yankees failed
to sweep the series and will head to Tampa for a three game series beginning on
Friday night.
