New York Mets are blown out by the Milwaukee Brewers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the final score was 11-4.  Robert Gsellman continued his horrible start to the season pitching bad and the bullpen wasn’t so great either.  Michael Conforto, Neil Walker and Kevin Plawecki each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched four innings giving up nine hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out three and suffered his third loss of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout, Paul Sewald pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts and Rafael Montero pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Zach Davies started for the Brewers and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out two and earned his fourth win of the season.  Jared Hughes pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Jacob Barnes pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Rob Scahill pitched two innings giving up two hits and he walked one. 

Conforto had two hits, Jay Bruce had a hit and Walker had two hits and an RBI.  T.J. Rivera had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Lucas Duda drew two walks.  Plawecki had two hits and two RBI, Gsellman had an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Conforto, Plawecki and Lagares each hit a double and Walker hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Conforto was picked off and Cabrera committed an error and Plawecki had a passed ball. 

Jonathan Villar had two hits and two RBI, Eric Thames drew two walks and Nick Franklin had a hit.  Hernan Perez had a hit, Travis Shaw had three hits and four RBI and Domingo Santana had three hits and and drew a walk.  Jett Bandy had a hit, Keon Broxton had two hits and an RBI and Orlando Arcia had a hit and two RBI.  Davies drew a walk, Jesus Aguilar had two hits and two RBI and Perez and Aguilar each hit a double and Aguilar hit a triple.  Shaw hit a homerun and the Brewers were 8-18 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Villar and Broxton each had a stolen base and Santana was caught stealing.  Davies had a pickoff. 

In the first Shaw hit an RBI single to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  In the second Plawecki hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Gsellman hit an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the second Villar hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Walker hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 4-2.  In the fifth Broxton hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 4-3.  Arcia hit a two-run single to give the Brewers a 5-4 lead.  Aguilar hit a two-run double and it was 7-4 Brewers.  Shaw hit a three-run homerun to make the score 10-4.  In the seventh Villar hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 11-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of three on Sunday afternoon.
