The New York Mets were defeated by
the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the
final score was 6-0. Steven Matz started
for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.
The Mets offense managed three hits.
Matz pitched 4 1/3 innings giving
up seven hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout and he took his second
loss of the season. Erik Goeddel pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Seth Lugo pitched
three innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three
strikeouts.
Lance Lynn pitched seven innings
giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and two strikeouts and he won his
seventh game of the season. Trevor
Rosenthal pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and John Brebbia
pitched a perfect inning.
Michael Conforto had a hit, Jay
Bruce had a hit and Lucas Duda drew a walk.
Rene Rivera had a hit, and the Mets
left two men on base.
Matt Carpenter had a hit and drew a
walk, Tommy Pham had three hits and two RBI and Dexter Fowler had two
hits. Jedd Gyorko had an RBI, Yadier
Molina had a hit and an RBI and Stephen Piscotty drew a walk. Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI, Paul DeJong
had two hits and an RBI and Carpenter hit a double. Pham, DeJong and Voit each hit a homerun and
the Cardinals were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base.
In the first Gyorko hit an RBI
ground out to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
In the third Pham hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 3-0. In the fourth DeJong hit a solo homerun to
extend the lead to 4-0. In the fifth
Molina hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.
In the sixth Voit hit a solo homerun to increase the lead to 6-0 which
would be the final score.
The All-Star Break is here and the
Mets will be off until Friday when they begin a ten game homestand. They will first face the Colorado Rockies for
three.
