New York Yankees drop another series, this time to the Milwaukee Brewers

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and wasn’t very good, the bullpen was great.  Chase Headley had two hits to lead the offense and Clint Frazier hit a homerun.

Tanaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts and lost his eighth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched giving up a hit and not recording an out, Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts and Tyler Webb pitched to one batter and retired him.  Chad Green pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Jimmy Nelson pitched five innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out six and won his eighth game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Oliver Drake pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jared Hughes pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two.  Corey Knebel pitched 1 1/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts and earned his 14th save of the season.

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Headley had two hits and an RBI and Frazier had a hit and two RBI.  Ji-Man Choi drew a walk, Tyler Wade had a hit and Wade hit a double and Frazier hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-16 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Gardner had two stolen bases.  Chapman had a pickoff.

Jonathan Villar had three hits, Eric Thames had two hits and Domingo Santana had a hit and drew a walk.  Travis Shaw had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk, Stephen Vogt had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Shaw and Vogt each hit a homerun.  The Brewers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Broxton had a stolen base and Villar was caught stealing.

In the first Shaw hit a three-run homerun to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead.  In the second Vogt hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Headley hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  Frazier hit a two-run homerun and it was 4-3.  In the fifth Shaw hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees had their chances but couldn’t capitalize and also got unlucky.  They had Headley miss a three-run homerun by inches that was originally ruled a homer but overturned on replay and then the right fielder made a great catch on Sanchez which probably would of tied the game.  The Yankees are limping into the break but need it bad.  They expect to have both Matt Holliday and Starlin Castro back for the series in Boston that will begin on Friday night.  It is a very important four game set as the Yankees are in second place by 3 ½ games behind the Red Sox and in the first wild card spot.
