The New York Mets lose a close one to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jose Reyes, Amed Rosario and Juan Lagares each had two hits. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out 11.  deGrom lost his 10th game of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning. 

Max Scherzer won his 16th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Joe Blanton pitched an inning with a walk, Ryan Madson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Sammy Solis pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Brandon Kintzler pitched an inning giving up two hits and he saved his 29th game of the season. 

Nori Aoki had a hit, Reyes had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Nimmo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk, Phillip Evans drew a walk and Rosario had two hits.  Lagares had two hits, Rosario hit a double and Nimmo hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Reyes had two stolen bases and d’Arnaud committed an error. 

Trea Turner had a hit and two RBI, Alejandro De Aza drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Michael Taylor had a hit, Jose Lobaton had two hits and an RBI and Murphy hit a triple.  Turner hit a homerun and the Nationals were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Taylor had a stolen base and Robles had an outfield assist. 

In the first Nimmo hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Turner hit a two-run homerun to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Lobaton hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Nationals.  In the eighth Reyes hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score.
