The New York Yankees defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida and the
final score was 8-3. Jordan Montgomery started
for the Yankees and he pitched well. The
Yankees bullpen mostly pitched well and Aaron Hicks and Kyle Higashioka led the
offense.
Montgomery pitched two innings
giving up a hit an no runs with a couple of strikeouts and picked up the win. Justus Sheffield pitched 1 2/3 innings giving
up a hit and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Wade LeBlanc pitched 2
1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts and Cale
Coshow pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. Raynel Espinal pitched an inning giving up a
walk and striking out two and Gio Gallegos pitched an inning with a walk and he
struck out the side.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Gleyber
Torres had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.
Hicks had two hits, Higashioka had three hits and Daniel Espinosa had a
hit, three RBI and drew a walk. Jace
Peterson drew a walk, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI and Abiatal Avelino
had a hit. Jeff Hendrix had a hit and
two RBI and Rashad Crawford had an RBI.
Torres, Espinosa, Hicks, Torreyes and Higashioka each hit a double. The Yankees were 4-15 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
Hendrix had a stolen base and Robinson had an outfield assist. LeBlanc had a pickoff.
In the first Espinosa hit a
three-run double to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. In the fourth Torreyes hit a sac fly to
increase the Yankees lead to 4-0. In the
bottom of the fourth Odubel Herrera hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-1. Maikel Franco hit a two-run homerun and it
was a 4-3 game. In the sixth Hendrix
reached on a fielding error and two runs scored to push the lead to 6-3
Yankees. In the eighth Hendrix hit an
RBI single and Crawford hit a sac fly to make it a 8-3 game and that would be
the final sore. The Yankees have started
the spring with three straight wins.
