The New York Yankees defeated the
Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon. The
game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final
score was 8-5. Luis Severino started for
the Yankees and he pitched well. Brett
Gardner, Didi Gregorius and Neil Walker each had two hits to pace the
offense.
Severino pitched five innings
giving up seven hits and three runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. Severino picked up the win. Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving
up two hits and a run and he struck out five, Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an
inning and walked a batter and Wade LeBlanc pitched two innings giving up two
hits and a run with three strikeouts.
Gardner had two hits, Greg Bird had
a hit and two RBI and Chris Gittens drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew
two walks. Gary Sanchez had a hit and an
RBI, Gregorius had two hits and Walker had two hits and two RBI. Jace Peterson drew a walk, Brandon Drury had a
hit and two RBI and Angel Aguilar had one hit.
Walker and Gregorius each hit a double and Bird and Sanchez each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 4-9 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Gardner and Aguilar each had a stolen
base.
In the first Bird hit a two-run
homerun and Walker hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead. In the third Sanchez hit a solo homerun to
push the lead to 5-0. In the fourth
Brian Anderson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-1. In the fifth Lewis Brinson hit a sac fly and
Anderson hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 5-3. In the sixth Drury hit a two-run single and
it was 7-3 Yankees. In the seventh J.B.
Shuck hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-4.
Stanton hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to push the lead
back up to 8-4. Joe Dunand hit a solo
homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5 and that would be the final
score.
