The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and
the final score was 9-3. Masahiro Tanaka
started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well. The offense did have ten but only Jeff Hendrix had more then a
hit.
Tanaka pitched 2 2/3 innings giving
up four hits and four runs. He walked
one and struck out six and took the loss.
Cody Carroll pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he walked two,
Domingo German pitched two innings giving up four hits and three runs with two
walks and two strikeouts and J.P. Feyereisen pitched two innings giving up a
hit and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.
Tyler Wade had a hit and drew a
walk, Diego Castillo had a hit and Brandon Drury had a hit and drew two
walks. Greg Bird had a hit, Hendrix had
two hits and Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI. Eric Kratz had a hit, Francisco Diaz had a hit
and Ronald Torreyes drew a walk. Shane
Robinson had a hit, Bird hit a double and the Yankees were 2-14 with runners in
scoring position and left 11 men on base.
Wade had a stolen base and
Carroll and Wade each committed an
error.
In the first Drury scored on a balk
and Andujar hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first Miguel Cabrera hit
a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the third Leonys Martin hit a two-run homerun to give
the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Victor Martinez
hit an RBI single and it was 4-2 Tigers.
In the fourth Estevan Florial reached on an error and a run scored to
make it a 4-3 game. In the bottom of the
fifth Nicholas Castellanos hit an RBI double and Jacoby Jones reached on a
force attempt fielding error to make it 6-3.
In the sixth Gabriel Quintanaa hit a sac fly to push the lead to 7-3 and
in the seventh Chad Sedio hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 9-3 and
that would be the final score.
