The New York Mets were defeated by
the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 5-1. Steven Matz started for
the Mets and he pitched ok and the bullpen did ok. Juan Lagares had three hits to lead the Mets
offense.
Matz took the loss pitching four
innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and four
strikeouts. Paul Sewald pitched two
innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Jacob
Rhame pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a
strikeout and Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two walks. A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Luke Weaver pitched five innings
giving up five hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts and he won
the game. Matt Bowman pitched two
innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Jordan Hicks pitched an inning
and he struck out one and Dominic Leone pitched an inning giving up a hit and
he struck out two.
Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Yoenis
Cespedes had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit.
Todd Frazier drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki drew a walk and Lagares had
three hits. Adrian Gonzalez drew a walk,
Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI and Bruce hit a double. The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base. Rosario
was picked off.
Dexter Fowler drew a walk, Tommy
Pham had two hits and drew two walks and Matt Carpenter drew two walks. Marcell Ozuna had three hits and two RBI,
Jose Molina had a hit and an RBI and Paul DeJong had two hits, two RBI and drew
a walk. Jedd Gyorko had a hit and drew a
walk, Ozuna hit a double and DeJong hit two homeruns. Molina also hit a homerun and the Cardinals
were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Pham and Gyorko had a stolen base. Weaver had a pickoff.
In the second DeJong hit a solo
homerun to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
In the second Rosario hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the third Ozuna hit an RBI double to give
the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. In the fourth
Molina hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-1. In the fifth Ozuna hit an RBI single and the
lead was pushed to 4-1. In the eighth
DeJong hit a solo homerun to make it 5-1 and that was the final score. The Mets are scheduled to play on Monday
night against the Philadelphia Phillies at home.
