The New York Mets defeated the St.
Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The game
was played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
6-2. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets
and he pitched well, the bullpen also did their job. Asdrubal Cabrera and Todd Frazier led the
offense.
deGrom pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up four hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts. deGrom picked up his first win of the
season. Robert Gsellman pitched to two
batters and struck out one and he gave up two hits, Anthony Swarzak pitched 1
1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Jeurys
Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two.
Michael Wacha pitched 4 2/3 innings
giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Wacha took the loss, Bud Norris pitched 1 1/3
innings giving up two hits and he struck out two, Ryan Sherriff pitched 1/3 of
an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Sam Tuivailala pitched an
inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving
up a hit and a walk.
Cabrera had three hits and an RBI,
Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks and Frazier had a hit
and three RBI. Travis d’Arnaud had a
hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and Juan Lagares had two
hits. deGrom had a hit, Wilmer Flores
had a hit and Amed Rosario drew a walk.
Cabrera had two doubles and Frazier hit a double. d’Arnaud and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the
Mets were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Frazier committed an error.
Tommy Pham had a hit and drew a
walk, Matt Carpenter had a hit and an RBI and Jose Martinez had two hits, an
RBI and drew a walk. Jose Molina had two
hits, Paul DeJong had a hit and Kolten Wong drew a walk. Carpenter hit a homerun and the Cardinals
were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Pham had an outfield assist.
In the first Frazier hit a two-run
double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. In
the fourth Martinez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth d’Arnaud hit a
solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1. In
the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun and the Mets lead was extended to
4-1. In the seventh Frazier hit a sac
fly and the score was 5-1 and in the eighth Carpenter hit a solo homerun to cut
the lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the
eighth Cabrera hit an RBI double and the final score was 6-2.
