New York Mets lose a slug fest in Colorado


The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 10-8.  Seth Lugo started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Dominic Smith had three hits to lead the offense. 

Lugo pitched three innings giving up six hits and six runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Robert Gsellman lost his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and Anthony Swarzak pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Chad Bettis pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and eight runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Chris Rusin pitched giving up a hit and two walks and he didn’t record an out, Bryan Shaw pitched 1/3 of an inning winning his third game of the season and Harrison Musgrave pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked two.  Jake McGee pitched an inning with a strikeout, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Wade Davis saved his 21st game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI, Smith had three hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Devin Mesoraco had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Jose Reyes had a hit and drew two walks and Luis Guillorme drew a walk.  Jose Bautista drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and Cabrera, Mesoraco, Reyes and Smith each hit a double.  Smith hit a triple and the Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Frazier and Reyes each committed an error and Mesoraco had a passed ball. 

DJ LeMahieu had three hits and an RBI, Charlie Blackmon had a hit and an RBI and Nolan Arenado had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and drew a walk, Gerardo Parra had two hits and two RBI and Ian Desmond drew three walks.  Tom Murphy had two hits and an RBI, Bettis had an RBI and Ryan McMahon had a hit and three RBI.  Arenado, McMahon and Blackmon each hit a homerun and the Rockies were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy was caught stealing. 

In the first Conforto hit an RBI single, Mesoraco hit a two-run double and it was 3-0 Mets.  In the bottom of the first Arenado hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the second Frazier hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the second Parra hit an RBI single to cut it to 4-2.  Bettis hit an RBI ground out to make it 4-3 and LeMahieu hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the third Parra hit an RBI single, Murphy hit an RBI single and the Rockies had a 6-4 lead.  In the fifth Flores hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-5.  Nimmo drew an RBI walk and the game was tied at six.  Cabrera hit a two-run single giving the Mets a 8-6 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth McMahon hit a three-run homerun to give the Rockies back the lead at 9-8.  Blackmon hit a solo homerun in the sixth to push the lead to 10-8 and that would be the final score.
